General Surgery
Everyday Pediatric Surgical Care
General Surgery in the Pediatric Age Group
Expert surgical care for the everyday conditions that affect children — from cysts and lumps to circumcision — provided by Dr. H.P.S. Miglani, with 30+ years of pediatric surgical experience.
Why this matters for your child
Even 'minor' surgery deserves a pediatric specialist
Procedures that seem routine — removing a cyst, a lymph node biopsy, or a circumcision — still involve a child’s smaller anatomy, different anaesthesia needs, and a different emotional experience than the same procedure in an adult.
Dr. H.P.S. Miglani brings the same pediatric-specific care to these common procedures as he does to more complex surgery, so families in Amritsar can get expert care close to home rather than travelling to other big cities or metro cities.

In plain language
What does 'general surgery' mean for children?
General pediatric surgery covers the common, non-emergency surgical conditions that affect children — many of which can be treated as straightforward, planned day-care procedures.
While these procedures may be considered routine, they still benefit from a pediatric surgeon’s experience with children’s anatomy, anaesthesia needs, and the reassurance a specialist can offer both child and parent.
Quick answer: General pediatric surgery covers common, planned procedures such as circumcision, cyst or lump removal, and lymph node biopsy — most performed as day-care procedures under appropriate pediatric anaesthesia.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
At what age is circumcision usually performed?
This depends on the reason for the procedure and family preference — Dr. Miglani will discuss the most appropriate timing during consultation.
Will my child need general anaesthesia for a small lump removal?
Not always — some minor procedures can be done under local or regional anaesthesia, depending on your child’s age and the specific procedure. This is discussed beforehand.
Is a lymph node biopsy something to worry about?
A biopsy is simply a way to find out the exact cause of an enlarged lymph node — most causes are benign, such as a past infection. Dr. Miglani will explain the findings clearly once results are available.
How long does recovery take for these procedures?
Most day-care procedures allow a return to school and normal activity within one to two weeks, depending on the specific surgery.
